What people are saying about Madras Masala Real feedback from customers who have visited us.
This was one of my most favorite grocery stores in 90's when I was a student. I was a regular customer in this store. I really miss this store since I left Boston. Simply the Best. And yes, the owners were so friendly and nice always. I used to rent this movie "mouna ragam" almost every time I visited this store. So many memories. These days so many other grocery stores have popped up everywhere, but Madras Masala is awesome and will always be my all time favorite. Will visit again when I come to Boston.
My husband is from Coimbatore and we find all the brands he's used to, along with specialty things we need for frying, desserts, and certain frozen products. The place is clean but very small; don't bring your kids in here and let them run around. There's bags, boxes, and cans stacked and hidden in every nook and cranny. Take your time to look carefully, you'll find what you're looking for. The owners speak English perfectly fine, they just don't suffer fools. They will gladly help you find something. People complaining on here expect them to run their shop like a Target or Whole Foods, and that's not what this is. At the register they sell tin trays of samosas, wrapped desserts, and there's a lot of signs and cards for South Asian nannies, tailors, and travel agents. Not as large and varied as places in Western Mass, but if you live in the area and need authentic spices, sacks of your favorite brand of rice, South Asian beauty products and soaps, pots/utensils/pans, and things for religious rituals (incense, statues, offerings), definitely go here. The mark-up is because it's close to the city. If you want cheaper, drive to Waltham or New Jersey.
So glad there’s an Indian grocery store within walkable distance in Brookline! They’re surprisingly well stocked for the size of the store and have tons of south indian options which are sometimes lacking in other Indian stores. The owners are very friendly. People afflicted with serious car-brain will compare a local mom and pop store in an expensive location with a chain in the suburbs - not all of us want to or can drive to a Patel Brothers in Waltham for a quick grocery trip. Glad we have this option in the neighborhood!
This place is awesome. Don't listen to the bad reviews. Seems like a lot of yuppies who don't appreciate charm and character. This place isn't a shiny new shop but has quality products and kind service. I got some rare spices here for $5 that are $15 online and the most amazing samosa and pakora. If you are a fan of authentic shops, give this place a shot.
Great shop for spices and goods that are hard to find elsewhere. Friendly and helpful staff. I go here weekly and it is always clean and well-stocked. Definitely a great place to shop and support a local business!
Best groceries and atutes for Indian items and god statues are really nice
